Many users have been waiting for this update. Previously, the Microsoft Teams mobile app was lacking some functions for a complete user experience. This year, Microsoft adds the following features to the app and therefore, makes it more flexible and convenient (Figure 1).

  • Ability to access files in Teams while offline
  • Innovative search experience
  • Ability to pin your most used chats
  • Extended library of emojis

Microsoft Teams Connect

Microsoft Teams Connect reinforces external collaboration with shared channels, changing how we work with customers, partners and suppliers. Each shared channel will appear alongside existing teams and channels, providing convenient access inside the current workflow. Microsoft did not give a release date for Teams Connect, only announcing that it will be generally available later on in 2021.

Teams multigeo support

The multigeo support for Teams will be generally available in the first half of this calendar year. It will give multinational organizations greater control over the location of specific data centers where their Teams data is stored. Similar to the multigeo means available to Exchange Online and SharePoint Online users, this update helps organizations meet specific data compliance and regulatory standards in certain countries and in highly regulated industries.

Microsoft Teams community keeps on growing and so do its features. Microsoft ignite 2021 introduced us to many new features coming to Teams this year. They will enhance our performance in the remote workspace and transform our experience with virtual conferencing.
