Microsoft Viva: Topics

Microsoft Viva Topics is a knowledge management platform that helps employees access information that directly relates to their job responsibilities.

Topics uses artificial intelligence to gather organization-wide content into topic areas of projects, products and customers, collating information from the Microsoft 365 ecosystem as well as from independent vendors such as Salesforce and ServiceNow. These topic pages are automatically generated by Microsoft’s artificial intelligence tools, and the organization’s “experts” get to add and edit wiki-style pages.

Microsoft 365 apps have theme “cards” that highlight topics when they appear in messages and other content and provide a quick view of context related to unfamiliar acronyms or terms.

When someone mentions a topic in the content of news articles and SharePoint pages, the corresponding text is highlighted. From this highlighted text, you can jump to the topic summary. From the title of the summary, you can navigate to the details of the topic. The mentioned topic can be detected automatically or added to the page with a direct link to the topic by the author of the page.

Topics are arranged around a “theme center” that will eventually be viewable through Teams and SharePoint, allowing workers to find recommended content based on themes and personalized Microsoft Graph settings.

The Viva Topics components are available today to all Microsoft 365 customers.
